I never knew Sean Smith. In fact, I don't think I have ever heard of him until The Mittani mentioned him in a heart-felt post made early today just shortly after losing contact with Sean as the US Embassy in Libya was attacked by an angry mob frustrated by a movie that portrayed the Prophet Mohammed.
Apparently Sean Smith (his in-game name was Vile Rat) was a very instrumental player in how Goonswarm Federation came to be in Eve Online. He used his diplomatic skills from real life and applied them towards Eve to aid Goonswarm in its rise to prominence. He is so well respected by everyone that even the enemies of Goonswarm are making a tribute to him. Here is a link to the null-security station being renamed in his honor as a grand and epic memorial.
